### 3\. Activate the bot (5 minutes)

Ensure that you have an **Entry Point** in place so that users can start conversations with your bot. Main Entry Points include:

1. **Chat launched by new users.** Initiates conversations when a user texts your WhatsApp Business number for the first time. To enable users to reach out to you via WhatsApp, make sure your website includes your WhatsApp phone number.

2. **Bot link.** Starts the conversation from a specific block in your flow. Use links or QR codes to invite users to interact with the bot.

3. **WhatsApp chat button.** Adds a conversation-starting button to your website. Customers can click on it to initiate a conversation in WhatsApp Messenger.

4. **Pop-up.** Incorporates a pop-up window on your website with an image, header, body text, and CTA (call-to-action) button. By clicking the pop-up, customers start a conversation with your business on WhatsApp.

Add WhatsApp Chat Button to Shopify: Full Guide

In this article, we’ll show you how to increase eCommerce sales for your store by using sales automation with Chatfuel and ChatGPT.

We’ll show you how to leverage WhatsApp for your business with a step-by-step guide on how to set it all up. The goal is to get you prepared for an influx of customers, making sure that you maximize your sales while reducing the workload on your team at the same time.

Let’s get started.

## The setup guide

### 1\. Connect your WhatsApp number to Chatfuel

To do this, you will first need to [**log in to your Chatfuel account**](https://dashboard.chatfuel.com/sign-up?utm_medium=chatfuel&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_campaign=automate-sales-ChatGPT).

We strongly recommend using a new number for the WhatsApp + Chatfuel integration. This is because a phone number connected to Chatfuel can’t be already in use in other WhatsApp Business accounts, the WhatsApp application, or with the WhatsApp Business application.

1. Once you’re in your dashboard, go to the ‘Home’ section from the left-side menu.

2. Scroll down to the WhatsApp Business section and click on ‘Connect.’

### 4\. Add the WhatsApp button to your website

This is what we call an ‘Entry Point’ at Chatfuel. It’s the way that users enter your flow. Or, in your case, how users enter the ChatGPT-powered template you duplicated above. Follow the steps below for this final stage of the setup.

1. Click on the WhatsApp entry point in your template.

2. Open the settings by clicking on the content in the block.

In the top left corner, copy the code, which you can paste into your website’s HTML.

### Adding a WhatsApp button to your ad

Create your ad as you'd [normally](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/1575719-how-to-create-facebook-and-instagram-ads), only include the following steps.

1. Open [Ads Manager](https://adsmanager.facebook.com/ads/manager/).

2. Сreate a new **Awareness**, **Traffic**, **Engagement**, or **Sales** campaign.

3. **Do not** select **Maximize the number of conversations** as a **Performance goal.** Meta does not allow such ads for phone numbers connected via WhatsApp Cloud API.

4. Set **WhatsApp** as *the only* **Messaging app** and choose a phone number.

5. If you don't see your number in the list under **Messaging apps**, follow these steps: Open [Linked Accounts](https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=linked_whatsapp) settings and choose the page connected to Chatfuel in the top right corner.

6. Check if the number here matches the number you connected to Chatfuel. If not, click **Disconnect,** then connect to the correct number. Clicking **Change** will not fix this problem.

7. Your number will then show up in your ad settings under **Messaging apps**.

8. Configure your ad creative as you wish and choose **Send WhatsApp message** as your **Call to action**.

9. Pay attention to the headline. In the next step, copy it exactly as you wrote it here.

10. Finally, scroll down to the **Message template** section and create a new template or edit the default one.

11. A message template is the first thing your customers will see after opening a chat with your business. Add a short welcome message or some FAQs, then click **Save and finish**.

### Adding keywords in the Keywords tab

To connect a flow to the ad you'll need to use keywords. Your ad headline is your keyword.

1. Go to the **Keywords** tab.

2. Add a new Keyword group.

3. Set **Matches** as your rule.

4. Copy your ad headline as your keyword. Make sure the headline matches the keyword; they must be identical.

5. Choose a flow you want to send users to.

**1\. India**

It is no secret that India is WhatsApp’s biggest market with over 400 million active users. **2\. Brazil**

Brazil is WhatsApp’s second-largest market with over 120 million active users. The app’s popularity in Brazil can be attributed to the high mobile data rates and a high availability of cheap smartphones. According to a survey by Mobile Time, 99% of Brazilian internet users own a WhatsApp account.

With India and Brazil leading the way, WhatsApp is entering the payment processing arena. This new feature makes users’ lives easier and enables businesses to operate more efficiently.

In this article, we’ll discover what WhatsApp Payments (also known as WhatsApp Pay) is, how it works, where it is available, and more.

Let’s get started.

## What is WhatsApp Payments?

WhatsApp Payments is an in-app feature that allows WhatsApp users to easily send and receive money from other users and businesses. This payments service lets users transfer money as easily as sending a text message. It is a convenient and secure way to manage money transfers without having to resort to third-party applications. As of May 13th, 2023, the feature is only available in India and Brazil.

## How does WhatsApp Payments work?

WhatsApp Payments are powered by financial partners, which are different based on the country that you are in. In India, the feature is enabled by the BHIM UPI platform and processed by payment partners like SBI, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, and others. In Brazil, the feature is enabled by Meta Pay, and payments are processed by trusted local partners.

The best part about the process is that there are no fees. This applies to money transfers done in both India and Brazil.

## WhatsApp Payments in India

The WhatsApp Payments feature was first released in beta mode in India in 2018. It was a soft start, with [1 million](https://tech.hindustantimes.com/tech/news/close-to-1-million-users-in-india-testing-whatsapp-s-payment-service-story-i5vtjyaQ0DJjPIHvvpgN3I.html) users given access to test the feature by early 2022. But after a positive reception and a long regulatory approval process, the Indian government finally agreed to a gradual release of the feature through the summer of 2022.

WhatsApp Pay is now available in ten regional Indian languages, and it can be used by both Android and iOS users.

## WhatsApp users in Brazil can now pay merchants through the app

In Brazil, the payment feature has a business use as well. Not only can users pay their friends and family, but they can also pay small businesses directly within the app. This allows companies to quickly and securely collect payments from their customers. And since there are no fees, this is a great tool to accept payment, boosting local commerce.

## Pay small businesses in Brazil on WhatsApp

To pay a business on WhatsApp in Brazil, you will first have to set up WhatsApp Pay. Then when the time comes, you will have to search for a company or brand in the WhatsApp business directory. Once you find one, you can browse their goods and services, add them to your cart, and make a payment in just a few taps:

WhatsApp is the most popular communication channel on the planet. With over 2 billion monthly active users worldwide, it went far away from being only a platform for communication with friends and family. Today it is an important channel for businesses to communicate with customers on their favorite app.

WhatsApp Business and API offer several features unavailable in the regular WhatsApp app. So let’s dive in and explore what WhatsApp Business and WhatsApp API are and how much it costs to implement them.

## What is WhatsApp Business?

WhatsApp Business app was launched in 2018. As evident from its name, it was designed specifically for businesses to connect with their customers and leads. It is a free-to-download app available on Android and iOS devices. It allows companies to create a business profile and communicate with customers using various messaging tools. This includes automated messages, message templates, and quick replies.

[WhatsApp Business](https://chatfuel.com/blog/what-is-whatsapp-business-and-how-to-use-it) is an enhanced version of the consumer app designed specifically for small businesses. It allows businesses to add a company bio, opening hours, and a product catalog and use basic automation such as auto-replies and quick replies. However, the app can only be accessed by four users simultaneously, which may make it less efficient for larger businesses with high message volumes.

## WhatsApp vs. WhatsApp Business vs. WhatsApp API

**WhatsApp** is a great free solution for personal use and not for businesses. It allows users to easily stay connected with friends and family through messaging, voice, and video calls. Many people use the app as an alternative to calling or texting loved ones in other countries, ensuring that they stay connected in the most convenient way possible.

Both WhatsApp Business and [WhatsApp API](https://chatfuel.com/blog/whatsapp-business-api) are developed for business use.

**WhatsApp Business** is specifically designed for businesses and has features unavailable in the regular app, such as automated messages, message templates, and a business profile. On the other hand, WhatsApp API is a paid service that allows businesses to integrate WhatsApp messaging into their own applications.

**WhatsApp Business API** is a valuable tool for improving customer service and streamlining communication efforts. In addition, companies can integrate their messaging system with their existing customer support system, allowing them to manage and respond to customer inquiries efficiently. For example, to send messages in bulk and reach many customers simultaneously to announce new products or services.

In expansion, the API enables verified businesses to integrate WhatsApp with their customer relationship management (CRM) system. So that companies can easily keep track of their customer interactions and use this information to improve their services and tailor their marketing efforts.

Below is a breakdown of WhatsApp Business and WhatsApp API’s features:

As WhatsApp Business and WhatsApp API have different features, their pricing varies too. Let’s look at both so that you can estimate the monthly costs for your business.

## WhatsApp Business pricing

WhatsApp Business is a free app, meaning that businesses can download and use it for free. However, there are some costs associated with using the app’s features. For example, businesses may be charged for sending certain types of messages, such as session messages and message templates.

WhatsApp Business uses a conversation-based pricing model, meaning businesses are charged based on the number of conversations they have with their customers. Each conversation starts with an initial message, which is free of charge. However, WhatsApp charges brands for their business-initiated messages sent within the same conversation. The cost of these messages varies depending on the message type and whether the user or the business initiates it.

## WhatsApp Business API costs

WhatsApp Business API is a paid service that allows businesses to integrate WhatsApp messaging into their own applications. The cost of the service varies depending on the provider and the number of messages sent. Some providers charge a flat fee for the service, while others charge per message.

For example, Meta-approved tech provider Chatfuel offers the latest official version of WhatsApp Business API and pricing as below:

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3/xs_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3/sm_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3/md_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3/lg_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3/xl_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3.webp 1327w" width="1327" height="866" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3/original_whatsapp_business_pricing_1_061bac8ab3.webp" alt=""><figcaption>Chatfuel pricing for WhatsApp automation.</figcaption></figure>

A WhatsApp link is a clickable URL that lets people start a chat with you instantly, without saving your number to their contacts. It uses the WhatsApp click-to-chat feature, which opens a conversation with just one tap.

***See also: *** [***What is WhatsApp Business and how to use it***](https://chatfuel.com/blog/what-is-whatsapp-business-and-how-to-use-it)

The basic format is: [https://wa.me/](https://wa.me/), followed by your phone number in international format (no dashes, spaces or plus signs). For example: [https://wa.me/15551234567](https://wa.me/15551234567).

Clicking this link will open a chat with that number instantly on mobile or desktop, even if the person doesn’t have the app.

When configuring this, you can also add a message that’s pre-filled in the chat. This is helpful for support, lead generation or sales. The message is ready to go when someone clicks; they just hit send.

**Bonus tip for businesses:** You can also add UTM parameters to your WhatsApp link to track where clicks are coming from, like [WhatsApp ads](https://chatfuel.com/blog/whatsapp-ads), landing pages or email campaigns. This way, you know exactly what’s driving conversations.

## How to create a WhatsApp chat link (click-to-chat)

Creating a 1:1 WhatsApp link is easy, whether sharing it with friends or using it to connect with leads or customers. You can build one manually or use a free tool to speed things up; no coding or technical skills needed. Let's see how.

### Method 1: Manually (no tools needed)

The fastest way to create a WhatsApp link is to build it yourself, no tools required.

Use this format: [https://wa.me/1234567890](https://wa.me/1234567890). It should include your full phone number (in international format, without a plus sign or spaces).

Want to go a step further? You can add a pre-filled message to make it even easier for the person to start the conversation. Just use: ?text=Your%20message. Here's an example:

[https://wa.me/1234567890?text=Hi%20there%20Im%20interested%20in%20your%20services](https://wa.me/1234567890?text=Hi%20there%20Im%20interested%20in%20your%20services)

That message automatically appears in the chat box, so the person taps send, and you’re talking.

### Method 2: Using a free WhatsApp link generator

<img src="https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXdou911c8k1PUOWV4s7QK0qQ4IJeP7r7sPtdkfmM29vnYZ_c3o5YQIMU6PxVbH6GuUeLWt0QC5jSbVn_AG2WPvNAXj4t-b49znQg7sdMwUFS8TeKqxb8TozbPxD23w0MS-n5n3n?key=eXrFdF0tn4-HZD_1Og-2Dg" width="624" height="341">

You just enter your phone number and an optional message, and the tool takes care of the rest. Here’s what it does:

- Auto-formats your link correctly

- Lets you add a pre-filled message

- Ensures the link is error-free and ready to send

- Shows a ** live preview**, so you know exactly what users will see

It’s fast, beginner-friendly and saves time, especially if you’re creating multiple links for different campaigns. Chatfuel creates a link that looks clean and professional, just the way you need. Once you’ve created your WhatsApp group link, the next step is getting it in front of the right contacts. Here are a few smart places to share it:

- **Social media bios or stories:** Instagram, Facebook and even X (formerly Twitter) can help you grow your group fast.

- **Email newsletters:** Add the link to your footer or a CTA block to invite loyal subscribers.

- **Landing pages or blog posts:** Perfect for converting traffic into group members.

- **Telegram migration:** If you're moving a community off Telegram, the WhatsApp link makes the switch easy.

**Pro tip:** Only share your group link in trusted spaces. If things get noisy or off-track, you can always tap the **Reset link** button inside the group settings to disable the current one and generate a fresh invite.

## Troubleshooting WhatsApp links

Let's clear any doubts you may have about WhatsApp links.

### Why is my WhatsApp link not working?

First, double-check the format: it should start with [https://wa.me/](https://wa.me/) followed by your full phone number (remember, no plus signs, spaces or dashes). If you're using a pre-filled message, make sure the URL is encoded correctly, especially punctuation and spaces. If the issue continues, try opening the link in a different browser or device to rule out local errors.

### What happens if someone clicks my group link but the group is full?

WhatsApp groups have a limit on the number of users (currently 1,024). If your group is full, new people who click the invite link will see a message saying the group can't accept more participants. You can create a new group or remove inactive members to make space.

### Can I customize the appearance of a WhatsApp link?

WhatsApp doesn’t allow custom link text or appearance directly. But you can shorten or brand your link using a tool like Bitly or your own domain (e.g., [chat.mybrand.com/help](http://chat.mybrand.com/help)). This makes the URL easier to share and track, especially in English (US) campaigns or landing pages. You can also include your WhatsApp QR code.

### How to reset or delete a WhatsApp group invite link?

To reset a group link, go to **Invite to group via link** and tap **Reset link**. This disables the current link immediately and creates a new one. Anyone with the old link will no longer be able to join. This is useful if the link was shared in an untrusted space or you're getting unwanted requests.

## Use cases: Who needs a WhatsApp link?

Whether you’re managing a business, growing a community or hosting an event, a WhatsApp link helps you stay connected and keep conversations flowing.
