## The brand

Festival Open Air Berg-Birwinken is an outdoor rock-music festival in Switzerland. It features local bands, and has been happening every summer for the last six years. Their marketing team of five is responsible for selling enough tickets each year to cover costs and turn a profit.

## The problem

In past years, the festival’s marketing strategy focused on offline marketing to sell tickets—like putting up posters and distributing flyers in towns near the venue. But this method was expensive, time consuming, and had low ROI.

So for the 2018 festival, its co-organizer Manuel Krapf decided to set more aggressive goals and find a new way to reach them. He wanted to:

1. increase festival attendance

2. lower marketing costs and improve ROI

3. make use of their small but loyal fan base of attendees who go every year.

## The solution

Manuel and his team knew they had to try something new to turn things around for the festival. Their first order of business was to take their festival marketing plan online.

After a few unsuccessful email, YouTube, and Facebook ad campaigns, they started looking into chatbots. Manuel first became interested in chatbots because “You can segment people, and get more engagement than via email. It’s a more fun way to do things, and it’s cheap to get people to your bot, especially if you’re working with Facebook ads.”

Manuel and his team reached out to bot expert Balint Pataki, from [Chatbot Tutorial](#), for advice. Balint helped them build a bot that functioned both as a referral system and a ticketing system for the music festival. Here’s how it worked:

1. Facebook video ads would take new users right to the bot.

2. Once there, they’d be offered a free, one-day ticket to the festival.

3. Then, the bot would ask if they wanted to give three free tickets to friends to earn themselves a free, four-day pass. (If not, the user was still offered the four-day ticket for a discounted price.)

4. The bot kept track of the referrals so it would know when to award the extra free tickets, and to whom. It sent them via SMS message.

5. To get into the festival, attendees showed the tickets on their smartphones.

## The recipe

Balint and the festival’s marketing team used the following Chatfuel features to create their successful bot:

- [**Click-to-Messenger ads**](https://chatfuel.com/blog/create-click-to-messenger-ads-to-drive-traffic-to-your-bot). Engaging, video-based ads enticed users into clicking, which directed them straight to the festival’s Messenger bot.

- [**Lookalike audiences**](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/1575719-how-to-create-facebook-and-instagram-ads). After gathering full lead information from users who interacted with their bot, the festival’s marketing team used it for future retargeting with Facebook Lookalike audiences. That way, their ads could reach new prospects similar to the customers who had already bought tickets.

- [**Zapier integration**](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/2742834-zapier-integration). The team used Zapier to integrate Google Sheets with their bot, so they could track users and referrals. Once a user subscribed, their information was sent via Zapier to a sheet. A second sheet tracked their referral IDs, so users were notified via bot as soon as one of their referrals confirmed their ticket.

- [**Reengage messages**](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/955973-re-engage-tab). They also used Reengage messages to notify users when the friends they referred signed up for a ticket. The message would send automatically once the friend confirmed their ticket, and included the block name or ID so the original user knew which friend claimed a ticket.

- **User attributes.** With this feature, the bot could automatically create festival entry tickets customized with the person’s name, ticket ID, and the dates for which their pass was valid.

## The results

The video campaign to direct users to the festival’s chatbot went viral, and they gained almost 3,000 new subscribers. They **grew the total number of attendees by 25%** by utilizing the power of their existing, loyal user base, as planned.

Their **cost per lead dropped to $0.44 compared to $3-4 in previous years—a 7x reduction**. The much-lower CPL plus the larger turnout meant revenue of around $35 per attendee, with only $1.60 in costs for each.

The music-festival bot also saved the marketing team lots of time. They didn’t have to plaster nearby towns with posters, nor did they have to print, package, and mail individual tickets to anyone who bought one.

Plus, the boost in attendees meant a better atmosphere for everyone. According to Manuel, the line to get in was long, and the parking lots and campsites were full and buzzing with activity and excitement. Thanks to their ticketing and referral chatbot, the Festival Open Air Berg-Birwinken team was able to provide a better experience for their festival-goers than ever before.

You’ve created an engaging Facebook ad for your business, complete with great visuals, intriguing copy, and precise targeting. The question is: Where will prospects go once they engage with it? The next step is crucial in actually achieving conversions and earning revenue for your brand.

Landing pages are the traditional option, and they still have their place. However, the Facebook Messenger chatbot has emerged as a compelling new alternative for a variety of industries and use cases. To decide between landing page vs. chatbot for your business, consider the features and benefits of each.

## What is a landing page?

A landing page is a web page that a user is directed to, or “lands” on, after clicking on a Facebook ad. It commonly includes more details about the product or service mentioned in the ad, and is designed to get the user to take a specific action—like opting in or making a purchase.

Landing pages typically include a form where the user can enter their information. They’re sometimes incentivized to fill out the form with a free download, discount, or other type of lead magnet. If they do so, they’ll be counted as a conversion. Then, they’ll either receive information or a digital product in their email, will be shipped a product, or will be contacted by the business later.

## The advantages of landing pages for Facebook ads

When a user clicks on a Facebook ad, a landing page in a separate window is where they’re traditionally sent. While landing pages are no longer the only option, they can be effective when used correctly. A few of their benefits include:

- **Landing pages are extremely customizable.** A new landing page is a blank slate. It can include as much information as you like in any arrangement or format, so a user can learn everything they need to know about your offer.

- **Landing pages tend to convert qualified traffic.** A landing-page form with several fields to fill in can be intimidating to a user. In general, the more information you ask for, the fewer submissions you’ll receive overall. However, the users you *do* convert are likely to be warm leads more valuable to your business, as a longer form will tend to weed out unqualified traffic.

- **Landing pages can help with SEO.** It depends on the content of your landing page, but some can help with your website’s search-engine rankings. If the page you designed includes long-form, useful content on a certain topic, you may be able to gain some SEO benefits from it.

## What is a Facebook Messenger bot?

A bot is a piece of software that can interact with customers or prospects in a conversational way via a chat platform like Facebook Messenger. You can equip your chatbot to answer specific questions or complete certain actions based on what users ask of them. They act as friendly virtual assistants that provide a guided, engaging experience. They’re easy and pleasant to interact with because they offer help and information in a humanlike way: in bite-sized pieces, message by message.

<figure><img width="378" height="576" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/chatbots_vs_landing_pages_2_a6d57a63b5/chatbots_vs_landing_pages_2_a6d57a63b5.gif" alt="chatbot messenger"><figcaption>Interacting with a bot is similar to a Messenger conversation with a human.</figcaption></figure>

You can connect a Facebook ad to a chatbot. That way, when prospects click on your ad, they can simply be redirected to your bot in Messenger instead of to a landing page. From there, the bot can do everything from answering FAQs and making product recommendations to accepting sale payments or event sign-ups — and the user won’t have to leave the Messenger app.

Plus, it’s all done in an instant, conversational style that’s proven to promote high engagement and retention rates. Finally, if the bot runs into an issue or question that it doesn’t know how to resolve, it can easily [**notify a human on your team to take over**](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/849315-live-chat/).

## The advantages of Messenger bots for Facebook ads

Messenger bots are a compelling answer to the question of how to convert more users who click on your ads. Some key benefits of using a Messenger bot as a Facebook-ads destination include:

- **Bots are instant.** In today’s fast-moving digital landscape, people expect answers and assistance almost instantly. Bots can provide this speed of service. As soon as a user engages with a [**click-to-Messenger ad**](https://chatfuel.com/blog/create-click-to-messenger-ads-to-drive-traffic-to-your-bot/), they’re directed to the bot and a conversation begins immediately. That way, there’s no lull or waiting period where the prospect can lose interest.

- **Bots can provide a personalized experience.** Of course, sending all prospects from an ad to the same, single landing page doesn’t make for a very customized experience. Bots, however, can be set up to **greet the prospect by name**, and ask questions to get to know their needs or tastes. That way, the bot can provide more tailored information, or show products and offers that relate to the user specifically.

- **Bots exist in a familiar, simple interface.** The Messenger interface where these bots exist always offers the same, easy-to-navigate experience—one which most users are already familiar with. Plus, Messenger is exceedingly mobile friendly. You’ll never have to worry about slow load times or jumbled layouts when your bot is accessed from a smartphone. Finally, a Messenger bot means fewer creative factors to worry about. Since you don’t have to choose fonts, layout, and colors, you can put all your focus on creating quality content.

- **Bots gather user data easily.** First, bots automatically have access to basic information from a subscriber’s Facebook profile. For any additional details your business needs, the bot can gather it in an engaging way using questions sent one by one. This method generally offers less friction in the conversion process—and less of a chance for user overwhelm than if you asked them to enter details into a form themselves.

- **Bots are innovative tools.** Chatbots are still relatively new on the scene of Facebook marketing. The incorrect perception that they can only be built from scratch, with code, is unfortunately widespread, and prevents many businesses from trying them out. So by offering a pleasant, easy interaction with your prospects through a bot, you’ll stand out as an innovative company dedicated to providing the best customer experience possible.

## How to choose between a landing page and a Messenger bot

When it comes to selecting a destination for your Facebook ads, both landing pages and bots can produce impressive results when used correctly. Here are a few ideas to help you decide which is right for your brand.

**Landing pages** work well for businesses that sell complex or especially technical products and services. In cases like these, it’s your job to educate the visitor about the problem and the details of your solution before they take an action like booking a demo or making a more expensive purchase. Landing pages allow you to present a large amount of information in a clear and coherent way, since you can control all elements of the design and layout.

**Chatbots** work well for any business case where the information the prospect needs to know before opting in or signing up can be clearly conveyed in a succinct, conversational style. For a newsletter opt-in, event registration, or a giveaway, for example, sending a user to a bot rather than a static landing page will make the transaction simpler and much quicker. Whereas there may be a delay between when a user fills out a landing-page form and when the business reaches out to them, a bot can provide service instantly. Plus, thanks to buttons and quick replies, gathering information is easy—the user may not even need to type at all. Finally, once the user responds to the bot, they’re considered a subscriber. In the end, it’s up to you to carefully consider your unique use case and choose the right Facebook ads destination for your brand. As with most business tools, experimentation is crucial to discovering which will work best for your specific situation. That’s why it’s generally a good idea to split test your next campaign to see which ads destination performs better. You can use Chatfuel’s A/B testing plugin for this. Simply divide the flow so that A leads customers to a landing page, and B leads them to a flow within a chatbot. Then, you can focus on whichever method produced the most conversions.

Or, it could be that both solutions have a place in your Facebook ads strategy, depending on the campaign and the stage. For example, you could use a landing page to explain the benefits of and sell a certain product.

Chatbots vs Landing Pages for Facebook Ads

As a chatbot automation platform trusted by 7m+ businesses, we know how to keep customers engaged. But unfortunately, complex automation puzzles them, and elaborate algorithms annoy them. As a result, they tend to leave unless they feel a connection. So we’ve asked three Chatfuel bot builders to share some basic rules to win your shoppers’ attention and take them further down the funnel.

To implement these tips in your bot-building process, open your Chatfuel account or [create a new one](https://dashboard.chatfuel.com). It’s quick and free.

## Personalize your bot

> “It’s impossible to operate without a human touch at times. With automation, your business can set up rules to funnel high-priority conversations to the live agent. For instance, if your customer has a specific question or needs some thorough guidance.” — says Nick, the Head of Product.

Create a warm atmosphere for users. Here’s how you can make your conversation friendly:

- Address to users by name. Having the first name personalization increases your click-through rate from 5.8% to 7%. Chatfuel allows you to do that via [User Attributes](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/5573554-attributes).

- Speak in customers' language. [Set the user’s language](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/2931038-multiple-languages) automatically based on their \[locale\] attribute or let them pick it on their own with buttons or quick replies.

- Be cool. If that corresponds to your brand voice, break the ice with emojis, gifs, and images.

Remember to monitor your bot performance. Сheck your ideas from time to time and improve your communication to know your customers better. With [Analyze Tab](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/838404-tracking-performance), you’ll be able to understand their needs, questions, and concerns to provide personalized answers.

## Keep it simple for users

The users should understand what they need to do from the start. Otherwise, [they’ll leave](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s41233-020-00033-2), and you won’t be able to engage them in your activities. According to Quality and User Experience journal 2020, customers had to adapt their way of expressing themselves to be understood by the chatbot or stop using it.

> “Contemplate on the first and the last steps. Think of what a user might ponder about in this journey and give them coherent answers. Then, invent the algorithm the user should follow and lay out all the tools they would require.” — Katie, the Content Team Lead, recommends

- Provide quick replies, buttons, galleries, and Save User Input plugins.

- Add a button to redirect users to your website, the bot’s main menu, or FAQs at your discretion.

- Give instructions for newbies. The first time your bot offers options like buttons or quick replies, instruct them on how to choose one. Add a message for a user that they can select one of the pre-filled responses instead of typing in. Something simple like “Tap one of the buttons below”.

- Create a menu that users can always come back to. For example, if your bot opens with a helpful main menu, make sure you have created an [AI rule](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/828883-keywords) that will allow this. Or, set up a Persistent Menu at the bottom of the Messenger chat window. It has shortcuts to different parts of your bot.

<figure><img width="888" height="1920" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_0_1c294e7147/bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_0_1c294e7147.gif" alt="Simple navigation example"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Turn monologues into interactions

> “If you’re chatting with someone who carries on the conversation by rambling on and on, you don’t feel heard or valued. If your chatbot drones on like this, users might feel uninvolved, unimportant, and will likely leave.” — shares Nat, the Product Marketing Manager

The conversation should feel more like two friends texting each other rather than a robot returning a query. Otherwise, a chatbot conversation loses its power and becomes nothing more than boring marketing material. For conversational marketing to work, there must be a proper conversation.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300/xs_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300/sm_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300/md_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300/lg_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300/xl_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300.webp 2080w" width="2080" height="1168" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300/original_bot_building_time_saving_tips_and_tricks_1_c8bf062300.webp" alt="No more monologues"><figcaption>Short inquiries and pictures make the chatbot experience more interactive</figcaption></figure>

- Avoid large texts that require no input from the user. Your Messenger chatbot should encourage frequent user participation. Use Buttons and Quick Replies to promote user interaction and show that you value their information in this dialogue. The point is to give users an easy way to stay engaged. Save bigger blocks of text for your blog or landing page.

- Stick to the point. Texts in your bot should be concise, engaging, and eye-catching.

- Keep it going. Offer your bot’s users options for engagement.

How to Make Chatbots More Engaging for Customers

You probably have heard the old saying *first impressions last*. When it comes to business, this formula works too. Consumers with positive first impressions are more likely to select the innovation than consumers with neutral or negative impressions. So, you only have one opportunity to make a great first impression with customers.

At the offline store, customers' first impression can base on your window displays or the sales manager greeting them. It is the first moment the consumer is reaching out to you. And, if no one is there to greet and assist them, that first impression may be the last. And potential customers will leave your store and probably never come back.

Nowadays, more people prefer online shopping over offline. According to [Meta’s studies](https://www.facebook.com/business/news/insights/understanding-the-shopping-journey-of-the-connected-consumer), 55% of users buy products online, and 54% of shoppers use Messenger for purchasing online. That makes each interaction with your potential customer crucially important. Users' first impression of your businesses might depend on the very first message they receive from you. In this article, you’ll learn how to create an engaging Welcome Message for your Facebook Messenger and see some inspiring examples.

## What is a chatbot Welcome Message

Welcome Message is the first message your Facebook chatbot sends to users. It generally includes a warm greeting, basic information about your business, and options to engage and continue the conversation. It is similar to a website homepage: the first place a prospect lands when they want to learn more about your brand and what you have to offer.

To set up a Facebook welcome message, you can use their built-in feature, [Instant Replies](https://www.facebook.com/help/1615627532020480). It allows plain-text responses. While this option works for many businesses, the functionalities of Chatfuel’s Welcome Message have the power to be more engaging. For example, you can use exciting media content and make conversations with your customers more interactive by using buttons.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5/xs_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5/sm_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5/md_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5/lg_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5/xl_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5.webp 2080w" width="2080" height="1168" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5/original_welcome_message_best_practices_0_e81a1485e5.webp" alt="What is a chatbot Welcome Message"><figcaption>А chatbot Welcome Message</figcaption></figure>

## What you can do with Welcome Message

### Greet your prospectives

For Chatfuel bots, you can automatically import each Facebook user’s publicly available profile information. That way, your bot can address each person by name. To do this, type two open brackets (“{{”) inside a text block. For example, you could have your bot say, “Hi, {{first name}}! 👋”.

### Introduce your brand and products

Your bot can briefly [introduce itself](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-names) and give users an idea of how it can help them. For example, it could say: “I’m Gigi, the personal shopping bot for this store. I’m here to help you find your perfect pair of jeans”.

### Guide your clients

You can ask users a question and let them answer by clicking on a button. For example, in a [restaurant chatbot](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbots-for-restaurants), such buttons could be Reserve a table or Schedule Now.

### Let users pick a language

With Welcome Message, you can let users choose the bot’s language by clicking buttons. Read more about adding buttons and other media assets to your automation [here](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/925465-media-assets).

## How to create a Welcome Message

You can send different greeting messages depending on the way users start a conversation with your bot. For example, they can enter your bot after commenting on your posts or through Facebook Ads with Messenger destination. Based on it, you’ll have to choose an [Entry Point](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/5571042-entry-points) later.

### To get started

1. Go to Automation → Flows tab.

2. Press **+** on the right. Then select Add Messenger flow from the list.

3. Choose an Entry Point. It will appear under the first block in your flow (starting point). Now you have two blocks.

4. Use the starting point block to create a Welcome Message. Press **+** Add Content to set it up. There you’ll see two options: **Content Blocks** and **Collect User Data**.

### Content Blocks

With Content Blocks, you can make users’ experiences interactive and efficient. There are multiple options:

*Text + Buttons* lets you create a text message and a button selection to greet and guide users. The buttons can be customized, too. For example, you can edit button names and actions after users press each button: continue the flow, call phone, open URL, or Schedule Calendly event. To make it work, make sure that all buttons lead to a block, so the users won’t get in a dead-end after clicking them.

*Typing animation* lets you make a conversation with your bot look more natural to users.

*Media content* (images, your product gallery, audio or video files) lets you can make your automation attractive and informative.

### Collect User Data

It is the second option in the **+** Add Content section of the starting point (and other blocks). If you wish to get users' contact information right away, you can use it from the Welcome Message. You can collect their answers, emails, phones, date and time info.

### To set up and test

When you set up an Entry Point, you’ll have to select the Get Started button or FAQs to greet and assist users. Note that you’ll have to connect them to the following blocks to activate these options. That way, users will move to the next point of the conversation. You can choose the desired block to appear to users after pressing a button. For example, you can create a Product Gallery Content Block to show your catalog or menu.

Before launching, make sure you activate the Entry Point. To check if it works as you want it to, use the option Test this flow. Then, you can see the whole path of your automation from the users’ perspective and fix it if needed. That way, you can create an outstanding Welcome Message and give all consumers a positive first impression.

## Chatbot Welcome Message examples

Let’s look at some Facebook Messenger greeting examples from our clients. Then, you can use them as an inspiration for your Welcome Message.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519/xs_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519/sm_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519/md_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519/lg_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519/xl_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519.webp 2080w" width="2080" height="1168" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519/original_welcome_message_best_practices_1_8c5464d519.webp" alt="Chatbot Welcome Message examples"><figcaption>Chatbot Welcome Message examples</figcaption></figure>

## Tips

### Keep it clear

We recommend using easy-to-read sentences that get right to the point. The users will get as brief info about your brand and products in the conversation as possible. Make sure that your text doesn’t have spelling errors and grammar mistakes. Such details can ruin the perception of your business.

### Add human-like spirit

To engage users, make the conversation with your chatbot look natural. You can use typing animation to pace the conversation and give users time to read the messages. Also, you can use emoji if it’s appropriate for your audience. Keep the welcoming tone that can help put users at ease — especially if they’re new to bots.

### Make it credible

Create your greeting message to look and sound professional. Choose visual and text content that is high-quality, engaging, and evoke an emotional response that reinforces your brand.

How to create the most effective chatbot Welcome Message

Banks and other businesses in the finance industry usually have large customer bases. That means providing personalized, helpful guidance to prospects and clients at scale can be a challenge. That’s why Facebook Messenger chatbots for banking have become so popular. Chatbots can help improve and customize the user experience at every stage, saving banks and finance brands time and money in the process.

## Why bots are ideal for banking and finance brands

Conversational banking is the new trend in the industry. It makes complex or time-consuming financial topics and tasks more accessible for prospects and customers. Plus, it allows users to complete certain routine tasks without help from a human agent. Not only does this mean they receive faster service, but also that human support staff can save time, too.

Plus, when conversational banking takes place in Messenger, the chat history is saved. This means that users can always go back and review information shared with them in the past, and that human agents can view a user’s previous chats with the bot later, for context.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/xs_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/sm_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/md_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/lg_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/xl_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp 2080w" width="2080" height="1168" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b/original_chatbots_for_banking_finance_business_0_3827a92e6b.webp" alt="chatbot for banks"><figcaption>Chatbots can save banking businesses time and money, while streamlining the user experience.</figcaption></figure>

Chatbots are also easier to build and implement than a full, separate banking app. Since chatbots exist in Facebook Messenger, they don’t require a team of developers and months of time to implement. There’s no coding knowledge required to use Chatfuel, and you can build your first bot in an afternoon. Plus, with 1.3 billion users on Messenger, it’s safe to say that a large portion of any business’s clientele is already familiar with the interface.

A bot doesn’t have to have to replace a full digital banking app though. Many finance-related businesses prefer to design a bot for one topic or initiative, in addition to their main, separate app. There are banks that made bots in Chatfuel specifically for information, advice, and promotions related to their investment services. Anything related to transfers, bill pay, loans, or credit cards still remains in their full app.

## What a chatbot can do for a business in the finance industry

The functions of a finance or banking chatbot are nearly endless. A few of the most helpful applications include:

- **Automated, personalized customer support, 24/7.** For routine questions and tasks, customers no longer have to visit a branch, stand by on hold, or wait for business hours. Chatbots are available to provide the same level of helpful, [personalized customer service](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-for-customer-service) every time, on demand.

- **Advice and information.** A Messenger bot is a great tool for giving out details about a brand’s services, products, or locations. It could share blog posts with money-saving tips or financial planning advice, offer details about a new credit card, or let users locate their nearest branch or ATM.

- **Lead generation and qualification.** There are several effective methods to bring new users to your bot. You can [link your bot to Facebook ad](https://chatfuel.com/blog/create-click-to-messenger-ads-to-drive-traffic-to-your-bot), incorporate a [chatbot window on your website](https://chatfuel.com/blog/add-a-messenger-chatbot-to-your-website), or even set up a feature to acquire bot users from comments on one of your Facebook page posts. (You can do all of the above with Entry Points!) Once there, your bot can ask users questions to qualify them. For example, you could set up a Facebook ad about your bank’s business loan services, and then ask users who click through questions about the size and type of their business. If they qualify, your bot can gather their information for a member of your team to contact later, or have them [book an in-person appointment](https://youtu.be/9jGuWa1sgAw) through the bot.

- **Audience segmentation.** You can set your bot to apply certain tags, called user attributes, to users based on their actions or responses. This way, your chatbot can act as a mini-CRM, allowing you to learn more about your audience and do specific retargeting in the future. For example, you could tag all users you acquired from comments on a post about your new credit card, and send them an offer related to that topic in the future, too.

- **Customer feedback collection.** Bots make it easy to gather feedback from your users. Customers generally have low motivation to complete a static email survey about a bank. But an engaging quiz in an instant, conversational format via chatbot will see much higher completion rates.

- **Multi-location support.** Banks or finance companies with multiple branches don’t need to create separate bots for each one.

## Tips for building a banking chatbot

To build an effective banking chatbot for your finance business, here are some tips:

1. **Distinguish between your bot and human agents.** It’s crucial to make sure users know when they’re interacting with a chatbot. Have your bot introduce itself and share a bit about what it can do in the [Welcome Message](https://chatfuel.com/blog/welcome-message-best-practices). If, at any point, you choose to have a [human take over the conversation](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/849315-live-chat), let the user know as well. Making this information clear is a great way to show transparency, build trust, and manage user expectations.

2. **Select a name and persona.** [Choose your bot’s name](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-names) and persona carefully. Banking and finance inevitably involve sensitive user information, so you don’t want a bot that comes off as too casual or easygoing. Build one that interacts in a friendly but professional manner. You want users to feel welcome, yet confident that your bot is an authority and will handle their information responsibly.

3. **Be mindful of security.** If your banking chatbot handles any kind of sensitive user information, you must have the appropriate security measures in place. Your bot should inform users of these measures as well, so they feel confident interacting with it. For example, [Surfshark](https://surfshark.com/), a VPN service, clearly informs users that their product will ensure that “your location is private and your sensitive data is secure, at all times.”

4. **Start small.** Bots have lots of potential uses for businesses in the finance and banking sector. At the beginning though, it’s best to focus on just one. Concentrate on your most common or pressing customer pain point, and build a bot to mitigate it. Once you’ve proven that your bot has enhanced the user experience, you can work on expanding its functionalities.

5. **Test your bot.** Once you’ve built the first version of your bot, invite colleagues or a small focus group to test it before you release to your entire audience. As these users interact with your bot, track the analytics to see how it’s performing. Check and see if there’s anywhere your bot or users get stuck, and make adjustments as needed. Once you’ve gathered feedback and made your changes, you can launch your Facebook bot to a wider audience.

## Finance-bot success stories from Chatfuel clients

First Valley Bank is a Philippines-based company in the banking industry that provides information about their business via a Chatfuel bot. Their Messenger chatbot:

-   offers money-saving tips;

-   has a branch locator tool;

- lets users interested in loans or a new account to share their contact information, so a bank representative can follow up later.

Banks are a great use case for Facebook chatbots, but so are financial planning and wealth management firms, money-management apps and influencers, loan companies, and money-transfer services, to name a few.

EasyDebit Philippines is another great example of a finance-related business who serves its users with a well-designed Chatfuel bot. EasyDebit allows customers to use their debit card to withdraw cash and make payments through local merchants, rather than having to travel to an ATM. They’ve built a simple bot that gives users basic information about their services, and offers answers to FAQs.

Did you know chatbots can help improve the user experience at every stage, saving banks and finance brands time and money in the process?

Why any banking or finance business needs a chatbot

From Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa to C-3PO and WALL-E, robots are real, and features have names. When it comes to automation, the same rule applies. Some businesses simply use their company title as their bot’s name. Read on for our top tips and key considerations if you wonder how to create a unique name for your chatbot.

## Why unique bot name matters

Distinctive and unique names help companies [stand out from the crowd](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/262850863_Naming_businesses_Names_as_drivers_of_brand_value). However, your first priority should be creating a [functional bot](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-for-customer-service) to assist users in solving a problem or answering their questions. A great name can make your bot:

- **Approachable.** Chatbots are still a relatively new technology, so pick a name that feels personable instead of intimidating. For example, Siri sounds more warm and friendly than Apple Smartphone Robot. Chatbot’s name should welcome and even intrigue users.
- **Memorable.** If customers are looking for your bot in their inbox, a unique name will make it easier to find. For example, a bot that offers tips and advice on dog training can be easily found as BarkBot rather than Dog Obedience Bot.

## Four different ways to name your bot

The type you select depends on your industry, the tone of voice of your business, the purpose of your bot, and how you want customers to see your brand. Here are a few common categories of chatbot names:

1. **A human name,** like Lisa or Michael. These names are often suitable for banking, tax, or medical services. They are formal and don’t distract from the topic at hand.
2. **A robot name,** like Bolt or Alpha, clarifies that the user is chatting with a non-human being, which can help avoid any confusion. You might consider a robot name if you’re in an industry like tech, education, or finance.
3. **A descriptive name,** like Calorie-TrackBot, helps users build healthy eating habits or Book Club Bot for one that offers book recommendations. The advantage of this naming style is that the user already understands the bot’s purpose before interacting with it. Although these names aren’t always as personable and approachable, their clarity may appeal to some users.
4. **A clever name,** like Penny for a personal-finance advice chatbot or PAM as a name for a bot that provides **P**rayer **A**nd **M**editation tips. This type of chatbot name is best for businesses in the travel, fitness, food, or beauty industries. A clever name ensures that your bot stands out and can make your brand and industry more approachable.

## How to choose good bot name

Although it’s possible to change your chatbot’s name, it’s best to pick a great one the first time so you don’t have to confuse users by updating it later. Keep these tips in mind as you make your choice:

- **Reflect your brand voice.** Your bot’s name and persona should [match your brand voice](https://chatfuel.com/blog/craft-a-brand-voice-that-converts) or how your business communicates typically with prospects and customers. Suppose your blog, social media pages, and customer support messages are full of puns and emojis. In that case, it makes sense to give your automation a clever name and a casual persona. If not, you lose consistency, decrease brand recognition, and might confuse your users.
- **Descriptive, but not dull.** Give your Facebook chatbot a name that gives a clue about its function but is not too descriptive and dry. For example, Travel Deals and Booking Bot isn’t very engaging. Instead, consider names like Dr.Travel or Global Adventure Bot to instantly show the idea and not tell about the concept.
- **Have your bot introduce itself.** If you give your bot a human-like name, users might think they’re dealing with a human. Make your bot let users know it’s a bot to avoid it. Chatfuel’s [handover protocol](https://docs.chatfuel.com/en/articles/2912153-conversation-handover) automatically notifies the users when a human agent takes over for your chatbot at any point. That way, users always know whom they’re chatting with.

How to choose the best chatbot name for your business

The demand for language-learning tools and solutions is high because of globalization and international businesses. As a result, any resource simplifies the language-learning process and is a welcome addition to the market. One innovative tool that’s particularly well-suited for this objective is a chatbot.

To illustrate how well Facebook automation can help students pick up a new language, we spoke with Sarah Bromley, who built a bot called Go Correct to help students learn English. It has helped over 2,000 users practice their English skills, and it also won an award from the British council for digital innovation in language teaching. We asked Sarah to share her experience.

## Why bots are a powerful language-learning solution

If it were easy to learn a new language by simply reading a textbook, everyone would be doing it. However, most students are more successful when an instructor personalizes the lessons and teaches them one-on-one or in a group. With language bots, students receive customized tuition, but on their schedule and at their own pace.

“Native speakers are vital for language learning, but interaction with real humans can be difficult or expensive to arrange. If a chatbot designed to behave like a human could provide that interaction for free and on-demand, this would be hugely beneficial to a language learner, ” explains Sarah.

<figure><img srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xs_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/xs_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/sm_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/sm_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/md_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/md_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 1280w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/lg_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/lg_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 1920w, https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/xl_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/xl_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp 1620w" width="1620" height="911" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/chatfuel-cms-staging/pic/original_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47/original_bots_for_language_learning_sarah_bromley_go_correct_0_d1b1929e47.webp" alt="go correct chatbot"><figcaption>The Go Correct bot helps students learn English</figcaption></figure>

Before building a bot, Sarah “piloted a product version, just by manually sending messages on WhatsApp” to her students. She already knew that advanced language learners “would like a chance to practice every day by writing a short text and having a native speaker correct it.”

So, although this method allowed her to offer her students that personalized, one-on-one element, Sarah knew that automating the process would make things far easier for everyone. So now, she uses the bot instead to “provide quick and easy access to snack-sized practice or instant answers, ” available to the students at any time.

Chatbots work so well for language learning because they automate communication on Facebook Messenger. “These days, everyone is using messaging apps. So it makes sense that regular study or practice is ideal for delivering through a chatbot, ” Sarah tells us. In addition, bringing this new learning experience to a familiar app is fun and exciting for users. They’re “generally intrigued and delighted by automation, ” says Sarah. She shared student feedback with us:

## Tips for building a bot for your language-learning business

[A bot can benefit your business](https://chatfuel.com/blog/top-9-reasons-your-business-needs-a-chatbot), whether you run a language course or provide one-on-one teaching to students. The Chatfuel platform is free and easy to use. Before building your automation, take a look at our best tips:

1. **Humanize your bot.** You can give it [a name and persona](https://chatfuel.com/blog/chatbot-names) to make it user-friendly and welcoming to users. Sarah also invited human instructors: “My bot sends daily questions, and a human checks and corrects the students’ answers.”

2. **Engage students**. Combine lessons and exercises with interactive quizzes. Your bot can share photos, videos, and GIFs. It’s an effective way to make the experience even more captivating for users.

3. **Try sequences.** “I chose Chatfuel to build my bot because it’s quick, free, and easy. The key feature I use sequences”, shares Sarah. This feature lets your bot send messages to particular user segments at specific intervals, similar to an email drip campaign. For example, you could have it send a lesson about food-related vocabulary in Spanish on day one, a quiz on that vocabulary on day two, and a recipe for a Spanish dish as soon as it completes both items.

4. **Consider building a multilingual bot.** Your students aren’t the only ones who can learn to speak multiple languages. You can reach and engage even more potential users with a [multilingual bot](https://chatfuel.com/blog/create-a-multilingual-chatbot).

Why Chatbots Work for Language-Learning Business

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer with about a hundred years of history. Nissan has produced mainstream cars and trucks, initially for the domestic market but exported worldwide since the 1950s.

The Nissan dealership in Israel is one of 10,000 dealerships that the Nissan Group has around the world, according to its global website. They focus on selling new and used cars to local buyers and receive many questions through their Messenger inbox. In this article, we’ll look at their journey that brought the Nissan Israel team to an incredible 10x increase in monthly organic sales and 3.5x of monthly qualified leads from Facebook by using a Messenger bot.

## The inbox becomes a leaking sales funnel

The Nissan Israel used to answer customer messages manually. The number of user messages grew instantly because of high interest in Nissan electric cars and their bestsellers. As a result, most who asked their questions via Messenger got delayed responses. The busy team couldn’t physically cover all the inquiries.

Worst of all, the team wasn’t qualifying leads because they had no system. In other words, all the leads were treated as equals. A cold lead who was window shopping might get priority over a warm lead who was ready to sign the paperwork today. The dealership’s Messenger inbox was a leaking sales funnel.

## Messenger bot qualifies leads and sends only ready-to-purchase to a human

Nissan Israel realized that they needed to find a fast and straightforward solution that was easy to implement right away. So, they contacted a digital marketing agency Business Pineapple and decided to collaborate to test a Messenger automation with Chatfuel. The central hypothesis they wanted to test was implementing an automated lead qualification system for the Nissan Israel Messenger inbox.

The first step was to analyze the questions people asked the Nissan dealership in Israel via Facebook. That’s how the team gathered the most popular questions:

1. Which of these models do you like?
2. Is your mind already set on this model?
3. What are your phone number and email address?

The second step was to measure user buying intent by asking a few questions. In other words, to qualify leads. Chatfuel bot determines the lead’s temperature and buying intent based on the answers provided. Then, if the lead is ready to buy, Chatfuel tags them as “high priority” and sends their information to the dealership’s customer relationship management (CRM).

The third step was to close the deal with those who were about to make a purchase. The Nissan sales team then jumps in, counters objections, and closes the deal. Then, the Chatfuel bot re-engages the rest of the leads and encourages them to return and buy later. Let’s check out the features that let Nissan bot hit the main goals.

## Four features test drive to generate and qualify leads

The Business Pineapple team picked four features to build their bot that will solve work on lead generation and qualification on the Nissan Israel Facebook Page via Messenger:

### 1\. Gallery cards

The gallery method of displaying images in a chatbot is helpful for any business that sells a physical product. This layout lets users scroll through different images with unique options and links below for more information. In Chatfuel, you can add up to 10 items in one card with a 640-character limit on each. It lets brands display and describe their products in detail to increase interest. For example, a Nissan bot has gallery cards with available vehicles and buttons to allow users to learn more about each car.

### 2\. Save User Email/Phone plugins

A vital aim of the Nissan chatbot was to gather contact information from qualified leads so human agents could follow up. The Save User Email and Save User Phone plugins in Chatfuel make this easy: user can share their contact information (whatever’s on their Facebook profile) with one tap. Nissan Israel’s chatbot suggests the email address and phone number on the user’s Facebook profile for frictionless, one-click lead capture.

### 3\. Notify Admin via Email plugin

Once the Business Pineapple team set up this plugin, the Messenger bot automatically sent lead information to the Nissan Israel team via email. This plugin lets you choose which user attributes to include in the email. Once set up, it will instantly email this information to the address you specify for easy lead organization and quick personal follow-up. In addition, this plugin alerts the Nissan Israel sales team via email when a lead is qualified and ready to test drive.

### 4\. JSON API plugin

As a final step, the Nissan bot used the [JSON API plugin](https://chatfuel.com/blog/json-api-examples) to send lead information (name, email, car model) to the dealership’s CRM. It closes the loop and keeps customer data automatically updated for the dealership.

## Automation wins the race

- In the first month after launching the bot campaign, Nissan Israel generated $380,000 by selling ten cars to leads generated by their Messenger chatbot. The promotion was purely organic.
- The dealership saw a 10x increase in monthly organic sales from Facebook.
- Their number of monthly qualified leads from Facebook also grew by 3.5x— from ten to thirty-five.

Behind these impressive metrics is the set-up lead generation and qualification process to bring even better results in the future.

> “I’ve played around with many chatbot builders, and the key things I like about Chatfuel are its stability and speed. Each message gets delivered when it should be, without delays or lags.” — Dima Kagan, Founder of Business Pineapple
